Follow these basic steps:
- Wear your boots inside the house. Wear the socks and insoles you'll be wearing on the trail and tie your boots snugly, but not too tight.
- Walk around the block and around town. Make sure your boots feel good at each stage before upping the distance.
- Put on a daypack and hit the trail.
From dress shoes, cycling shoes, sneakers, etc I discovered that salomons run small when I bought my first pair of snow boots, the Salomon Toundra Mids. When purchasing those boots, everybody stressed to buy a full size larger than what you typically wear.
Two kinds of running shoes can accommodate wide feet. First, many runners will appreciate the wide toe box from the Altra trail running shoes while others need the entire shoe that has a wide fitting. In this case, the Salomon Speedcross is an excellent option.
For most people requiring wider shoes, a wider shoe at the ball- of-the-foot and toe-box is most important. When measured at the ball-of-the-foot, the difference between shoe widths is approximately 1/4”. A wide width is 1/4” wider than a medium width and an extra wide width is 1/2” wider than a medium width.
The standard (medium) width for women is B, while the standard width for men is D.

According to Amazon, 82% of customers say that Merrell Shoes fit them as expected. My recommendation would be either to order your normal size, or a half size bigger to be safe. Some people have reported the newer Merrells may run small.
Hiking boots should fit snug everywhere, tight nowhere and offer room to wiggle your toes. Try them on at the end of the day (after feet swell) and with the socks you plan to wear. Know your size. You can also measure your foot length and use REI.com sizing charts to find your size.
Overall, I'm happy with them and feel they're still comfortable like the Salomons are, but just not quite as comfortable. They still feature the OrthoLite Sockliner like Salomon uses, which is why I feel they're still comfortable.
Comments: Regarding the sizing, the shoe fits slightly small in both length and width. I normally wear a 9 but sized up to a 9.5 (which I often do for Saucony shoes) and the shoe fits perfectly. Going 1/2 size up is probably a safe bet. With the correct size, the shoes fit fantastically.
Go for the same size you are in Sportiva boots, Mammut boots are however a little wider.

Unlike normal shoes, ski boots need to fit the skier's foot exactly. flex slightly at the knee and draw round the front of your foot. do the same with the other foot.

Merrell is one of the few companies that specialises in manufacturing wide-fit walking shoes. And they're doing it in style; people can't stop boasting the comfort of their footwear.
The boot's width is the main difference between men's and women's hiking boots. So, compared to the same men's boot, boot makers make women's boots wider in the forefoot and toe area. Usually, women also have shorter and narrower feet than men's feet.
Brashers are generally reckoned to be reasonably wide as they're aimed squarely at the typical British foot, but it's important to buy a boot that fits you. If the Brashers are too narrow, and it sounds like they are, try some other brands.
If you are looking for a quality boot for a moderate price these are a perfect choice. Not a true wide width! This shoe runs narrow, even narrower than other Vasque shoes.
Re: Advice on wide feeting walking bootsBy comparison Scarpa are an Italian brand and are generally quite narrow fitting boots.
Meindl is a family owned business based in German Alps. The Comfort Fit range compromises of a range of wide fitting walking shoes and hiking boots. The standard footbed in these boots and shoes are well designed and shaped, but if more support is required we recommend the Superfeet Wide Green insoles.
With wide versions of most of their walking and running shoes, New Balance is a go-to brand for people with wider feet who find that most shoes are too narrow. The Ralaxa model is ideal for women with wide feet who want a quality, cushioned shoe for walking or all-day wear.
