Why did Apple remove a common audio connector? The 3.5mm jack is over 50-years-old and doesn't do much besides carry an audio signal. It needs its own power amplifier and digital audio converter, which can be built into headphones, so removing the jack makes room for other things, such as a second speaker.
But if you're new to the experience, here are some handy products to help you survive without.
- Bluetooth Headphones.
- Lightning or USB-C Headphone Adapter.
- Bluetooth Adapter for Your Wired Headphones.
- Bluetooth Receiver for Your Stereo.
You can connect those to the iPhone 7 in exactly the same way as you would your iPhone 6s, and as you would Apple's new wireless AirPods. You simply pair the headphones over Bluetooth and begin playback. It's more of an issue if you have a pair of headphones or earphones with a 3.5mm connector.
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 7 does not include a headphone jack. In its absence, owners will have to use Lightning or Bluetooth headphones, both of which will be more expensive than a pair that ends in the traditional 3.5mm connector.
Apple ditched the 3.5mm jack back in 2016 with the introduction of the iPhone 7, and some of us still haven't gotten over it. The port has been around for generations.
Amid the Google I/O 2019 whirlwind, Google announced its Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will reintroduce the 3.5mm headphone jack. The (partial) return of the headphone jack comes later than we hoped.
With the new iPhones coming in, Apple has stopped selling the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and iPhone SE -- meaning that the last iPhones to come with a headphone jack are gone.
Apple first ditched the standard 3.5mm jack with the iPhone 7.
Apple took out the 3.5mm audio jack for internal volume real estate. The home button represents surface area real estate. Removing it allows the screen to extend to the bottom of the phone. Minimalism.
The removal of the headphone jack in phones is intended to make wireless headphones more convenient and appealing to the masses than wired ones. Enjoying the “convenience” of wireless earbuds means keeping Bluetooth on more often or all the time and, therefore, enables more tracking of your every move for targeted ads.
Water Resistant Doesn't Mean Waterproof
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are rated as being IP67 splash, water and dust resistant under IEC standard 60529. That means the iPhone 7 can survive being submerged in just over three feet of water for up to 30 minutes.Despite not having a headphone jack, the iPhone 7 still comes up with a pair of wired Apple EarPods. Instead of plugging in via the 3.5mm jack no longer included in the iPhone, the EarPods plug in using the Lightning port. If you're interested in the wireless Apple AirPods, those will have to be purchased separately.
Going wireless
The Apple AirPods, like other wireless headphones, connect via Bluetooth. That means that AirPods will work with any other Bluetooth-equipped smartphones or tablets, and existing Bluetooth headphones will work fine with the iPhone 7.In Stock. In Stock. In Stock. One of the best
