Lithium metal batteries (a.k.a.: non-rechargeable lithium, primary lithium). This includes all the typical non-rechargeable batteries for personal film cameras and digital cameras (AA, AAA, 123, CR123A, CR1, CR2, CRV3, CR22, 2CR5, etc.) as well as the flat round lithium button cells.
Small consumer-type primary lithium cells or batteries (lithium metal or lithium alloy) like those used to power cameras and flashlights are mailable domestically under the following conditions. Mailing batteries internationally, or to and from APO, FPO, or DPO destinations, is prohibited regardless of mail class.
Lithium Batteries packed without equipment: UPS only accepts air shipments of UN3090 or UN3480, lithium metal or ion batteries packed alone (without equipment) as fully regulated shipments. Section II or 49CFR 173.185(c) will not be accepted for air transport.
The lithium battery mark must be printed in color . Cut out the shipping label, packing slip and the lithium battery mark. Include the packing slip in your shipping package. Place the shipping label in the UPS shipping pouch.
Individual batteries mailed without equipment:
- Each cell must contain no more than 1.0 gram of lithium content.
- Each battery must contain no more than 2.0 grams aggregate lithium content.
- The mailpiece must not exceed 5 pounds.
Electronic devices sent with lithium batteries (including mobile phones, digital cameras, etc) where the battery is not connected to the device. UK - Allowed in the mail, with restrictions and packaging guidelines below: Cells or batteries that are defective or damaged are forbidden.
This lithium battery label allows customers to mark which type of lithium battery is being contained in package. This label conforms and meets the requirements under DOT CFR 49, ICAO, IATA guidlines for shipments by air.
FedEx Express® shipments containing permitted IATA Section II lithium batteries are allowed at FedEx Office Print and Ship Center locations and may be placed in FedEx Drop Boxes.
Lithium-ion batteries are incredibly popular these days. You can find them not just on smartphones but on laptops, PDAs, cars, and iPods. Most smartphone brands including Samsung, iPhone, Infinix, Nokia use lithium-ion batteries.
Package wet cell batteries in containers, including metal containers, with acid/alkali leakproof liner — sealed to prevent leakage. Fasten batteries securely with fill openings and vents facing up to prevent short-circuiting or overheating.
Lithium batteries can only be shipped internationally if they are installed in the equipment they operate. Shipping carriers are not allowed to ship packages containing only lithium batteries or cells to international locations – they must be included inside a product.
If shipping lithium batteries internationally by air, packed with equipment or alone, complete the Lithium Battery Safety Document and Battery Label, as described in this brochure. Place the completed Lithium Battery Safety Document in document pouch or resealable envelope and attach it to the outside of the package.
You can send lithium-ion batteries within the UK, as long as the battery is fitted within the device. Due to the risk of combustion, you cannot send lithium-ion batteries internationally. For a full list of items which are not permitted through our network take a look at our international prohibited items list.
Battery-operated ToysKeep in mind that restrictions exist for shipping lithium cells and batteries. For domestic mail, batteries cannot contain more than 1 gram of lithium content per cell and your package must have a complete delivery and return address.
Batteries must be placed in rigid outer packaging (unless contained in equipment) and inner packaging must be designed to prevent short circuits (non-conductive materials) and damage to the batteries. The device must have positive method to prevent accidental activation in transport. Package must not exceed 66lbs.
If the item you want to return contains damaged lithium batteries please detach them from the item before returning. The item without the battery can then be returned. If the damaged battery can't be detached or if the item itself is a damaged lithium battery, please dispose it in the nearest recycling centre.
Unfortunately not. Batteries can not be shipped internationally, this will often simply mean your package is returned. All parcels being shipped internationally are checked and scanned so it is not worth even trying to send any item with a battery contained inside.
