Pool chlorine can get trapped between the cast's liner and the skin and can irritate the skin below the waterproof cast when drying. Keep it to 2-3 hours max. Staying in a pool for long durations of time can eventually cause the waterproof cast to break down.
If the edge becomes damp, it can be dried with a hair dryer on the cool setting. Do not stick objects under the cast. This can cause infection to your skin. Also, please do not put talcum powder or corn starch inside the cast.

This can be excruciatingly painful when having a broken limb in a cast. That's why it is split so the arm can swell up. The cast works by fixation. It fixates the bone to a spot so they'll grow back together. A split cast offers some support and fixation but not full fixation.
You might also be well advised to get a letter from your doctor saying he is fit to fly. Lots of airlines have a 48 no fly rule hour rule after breaking bones. Since this happened yesterday by the time you fly it should be ok but a doctor's letter will clarify things if asked.
Passengers travelling with a plaster cast that has been fitted for less than 48 hours must ensure that the cast is split along the entire length of the cast to protect against swelling that may occur in-flight. If the plaster cast has been fitted for more than 48 hours, there is no requirement for the cast to be split.
