If your ISP sends you a router, you'll need to return it to avoid charges. Frontier in particular has been notorious for charging customers $10 a month for their equipment “whether you use it or not” — the company's words, not mine — but Frontier is clearly aware it won't be able to do that anymore.

- Reset your network. It sounds simple, but sometimes resetting your network is all you need to do to boost your Internet speeds.
- Check for conflicting signals.
- See what devices are on your network.
- Move your router.
- Update your browser.
- Scan for viruses regularly.
Overall, Verizon Fios gives you more for your money. Part of this comes down to fiber being more reliable than cable internet, but it's also due to Verizon Fios giving you more speed for your money. Also, Xfinity's prices vary based on where you live.
Where the provider falls short, however, is in its consistency and reliability. In a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) study, Frontier FiOS (fiber optic) only provided 72% of its advertised speeds to 95% of panelists. Frontier DSL did far worse, with its actual speeds reaching just 33% of its advertised speeds.
The edge Verizon Fios has over Spectrum speeds is not in download speed but in upload speed. Spectrum upload speeds top out at up to 35 Mbps, but Verizon Fios upload speeds can reach up to 880 Mbps.
