Sonos does not support Bluetooth. Bluetooth is all about proximity, so the quality of your wireless signal is based on where your smartphone, tablet, or computer is in relation to your Sonos speaker. This isn't really conducive to having a speaker in every room.
Connect the supplied HDMI cable to the Beam, and the other end to the HDMI-ARC port on your TV. If your TV does not have an HDMI-ARC port, you can use the supplied optical audio adapter, and then connect to the digital audio out port (optical) on your TV. 4.
Use a Samsung One Remote with Sonos home theater speakers
- Go to the Home menu on the Samsung TV, scroll left and select Sources.
- Select Universal Remote.
- Before we add the Sonos home theater speaker, you will first need to complete the remote set up for your cable, satellite, or Blu-ray player.
- Once you've added your other devices, select New Device, then Home Theater System.
If you want to connect a soundbar to the TV without HDMI or optical, you have two options: go high-tech with a wireless connection or mid-tech with 3.5 mm aux or RCA cables. You can also use an auxiliary device to convert coaxial cables to another type of connection.

- Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android. From the Settings tab, tap System.
- Select the room where your Sonos home theater product is located.
- Tap TV and then Remote Control Setup.
- Follow the in-app instructions to configure your new remote to control the home theater speaker.
Here's how to find and add them to your Sonos speaker.
- Launch the Sonos Controller app.
- Tap More in the bottom right corner of the app.
- Tap Add Music Services.
- Tap the streaming service you want to add.
- Tap Add to Sonos.
- Tap the button to connect the service (it will read log in or set up or something like that).
With a Playbar, Playbase or Beam connected to your TV, users can then add 2 x Sonos One speakers to create a wireless surround sound stage or add Sonos Sub to give powerful, detailed bass to your music and movies.
Sonos S1 app for iOS or Android
- Connect your device to the WiFi network that Sonos is on.
- Open the Sonos app.
- When you see the message “Sonos found” at the top of the screen, tap Connect.
- Tap Let's connect.
- Once you see “Connected to your Sonos system,” select Done.
The Sonos Controller for Android works on any Android smartphone running Android 2.1 or later with a screen size of HVGA 320 x 480, WVGA 480 x 800 or WVGA 480 x 854.
SmartThings users can now easily discover and add Sonos One, Amp, Beam, or Play:5 (Gen 2) to their SmartThings ecosystem, giving them the ability to seamlessly control speakers through the SmartThings app and add speakers to home automations. The ability to play, pause, skip tracks, and control volume on Sonos speakers.
Google Play Music can stream music directly from the Play Music app to any Sonos speaker. As long as you're on the same wireless network - and on Android - you can stream over WiFi what you're listening to on your phone to a Sonos speaker, without even opening the Sonos app.
Make sure you're connected to the right Wi-Fi networkGo to the Wi-Fi settings on your computer, phone, or tablet, and confirm it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Sonos. Check that your device isn't connected to a guest network as this can prevent your device from connecting to Sonos.
The Sonos app is compatible with Android 2.2 and higher. Certain features may require higher versions of Android. The Sonos app requires that you have an Android device, one or more Sonos speakers, and a wireless router set up in your home. Android devices and Sonos products are sold separately.
Add your music library to Sonos
- Open the Sonos app for macOS or Windows.
- From the Manage menu, select Music Library Settings.
- Click + (plus) on macOS, or Add if you are using Windows.
- If you use iTunes or are not sure where your music is stored, select My Music folder.
Pair Sonos Move with Bluetooth
- Switch Move to Bluetooth mode. 1) Switch Move to Bluetooth mode. Find the Mode button located on the back of your Move between the Power and Join button.

Audio files downloaded to your Android device can be played on your Sonos system using the Sonos app. This article will show you how to manage your downloaded music to ensure it appears in the Sonos app and how to play it on your Sonos products.
Use a small pointed object to press the ID SET button on the back of the subwoofer. Continue holding until STANDBY turns off and LINK (Blue LED) blinks quickly. While the soundbar is turned off, press and hold Mute on the remote control. If the Blue LED is still blinking, the process has failed.
Both cables can be had pretty cheap. The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can't get transmitted across optical. In terms of simplicity, HDMI also passes video signals.
Unplug the power cable and unplug the subwoofer. Make sure the subwoofer is plugged in first, then plug in the bar. Nothing else. Press the pairing button on the subwoofer and then follow the instructions to manually pair.
If your TV supports ARC connections, it means you can connect all your kit (set-top boxes, games consoles, etc.) to your soundbar, then just use a single HDMI cable to connect your soundbar to your TV.
You can't add a standalone subwoofer to most soundbars. It's typically only possible when both the soundbar and the subwoofer are sold together and designed to natively connect to one another.
You can connect the soundbar to a receiver by an optical cable. You should also note that the digital encoding standards should match on both the receiver and soundbar. If they don't then you may run into some odd sound issues. You can also use HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) to connect a soundbar to a receiver.
Unplug the soundbar, the subwoofer, and the rear speakers for 30 seconds, and then plug them back in. Open the SmartThings app on your phone and select the soundbar to access its control menu. Tap the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner of the screen. Navigate to Information > Firmware Update > Update Now.

Soundbars all look kind of the same, so the overall shape of the Sonos Playbar and Bose SoundTouch 700 is pretty similar. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two is that the Bose SoundTouch 700 comes with a remote, while you'll need to configure your TV's remote to control the Sonos Playbar.
A soundbar is usually placed below a TV, but it's also okay to mount it above a television set. Based on the model, the placement could determine the soundbar's performance and how it looks. If the speakers are upward-firing, placing the soundbar above the TV will make a lot more acoustic sense.
All of our Sonos speakers have been tuned using Trueplay and the difference is definitely noticeable. We retune all of our speakers whenever we move them and we would definitely say it is worth doing.
If your all-in-one speaker is placed next to a wall or on a shelf, make sure there's enough space behind the speaker and that it's not placed right up against the wall. There should be at least 1” of space behind smaller speakers (One, One SL) and 2” of space behind larger speakers (Five, Play:5).
Does a soundbar need a subwoofer? A soundbar doesn't need a subwoofer to sound good. Soundbars include multiple internal speakers that can sound great on their own, but a subwoofer helps produce low frequencies that many soundbars cannot.
Sound qualityThere's no question a Sonos surround system is an upgrade from standard speakers or a single soundbar. The Beam sounds great on its own, but add two rear speakers—and especially the Sub—and everything comes through with undeniable verve.
