That being said, the Kobelco is still a great machine that will go the distance. As we usually say, dealer support and after-sales service should be a huge factor in your decision, so make sure you check your nearest dealers and perhaps give both excavators a test!
A high quality, well-maintained mini excavator (aka, compact excavator) has a maximum lifespan of about 10,000 hours. Heavy use and poor maintenance can quickly reduce that to about 8,000 hours.
The main factor in the pricing of mini excavators is the size of the unit. Larger units that are designed to move more dirt and debris faster are going to cost considerably more than the units available on the smaller end of the scale. Additional features also cause the price of these units to increase.

With excavators Deere/Hitachi is the same the only difference the Deere runs a deere engine and of course yellow paint. I was told Case/Linkbelt are the same machine just painted a different color.
When it comes to cost, the Komatsu does come in cheaper, so you'd be getting those similar specs at a much lower price. However, the Caterpillar does have a better value retention long-term, so if you're looking to sell your machine once the job is done, this might be the better option.

On the number hours you can expect it really does depend on the material you are running in and the kind of operator you are. In my area small dozers probably average between 3,200 and 3,800 hours to destruction and I've seen a whole lot less hours on some brands.
