edTPA is highly cheatable. The hallmark of inauthentic assessment is that it's easy to cheat, because you don't have to be good at what you're allegedly being judged for-- you just have to be good at the assessment task which, because it's inauthentic, consists of faking proxies for the real deal anyway.
A candidate can register for only one retake at a time (either full-assessment retake or partial retake). Candidates must wait to receive scores from their last submission before they can register for another retake.
Until we know what the passage rates are, however, it's impossible to know whether to take edTPA seriously. We do know, however, that last year in California the pass rate on the PACT assessment – the precursor to edTPA – was 98%, with a shocking 94% passing the first time they took the test.
Most candidates spend an average of 40 hours outside of the classroom writing and revising the edTPA prior to submission.
Candidates will receive their scores by 10:00 p.m. eastern time on the score report dates below. Educator Preparation Programs may access candidates' scores in ResultsAnalyzer® 24 hours after candidates receive scores.
In order to pass edTPA, aspiring teachers prepare a portfolio of materials during their student teaching clinical experience. Aspiring teachers will create a portfolio of artifacts that demonstrate their ability to achieve certain goals. edTPA requires artifacts like lesson plans, videotapes, and student assessments.
A. If you fail the edTPA you may select one of these options: Re-take the edTPA: You can re-take the edTPA to try to achieve a passing score. You can either re-take just one task of the edTPA or you can re-take the entire edTPA.
If they do not pass, candidates should consult with a designated program faculty member to determine whether to retake the entire edTPA or retake one, two or three1 edTPA tasks to meet the state requirement.
Task 1 is often the most difficult and time-consuming component, and many teachers get overwhelmed. Allow time for it. Michelle assures us that if you take the time to complete Task 1 properly, Task 2 will be much easier and of higher quality.
The edTPA national recommended professional performance standard is 42, although states are free to set their own cut scores. Today, state-set cut scores range from 35-41.
The $300 fee for edTPA covers all development costs and operational assessment services associated with the resources and support for implementation, delivery, scoring and reporting of edTPA, as well as customer support service for candidates and faculty.
edTPA requires aspiring teachers to demonstrate readiness to teach through lesson plans designed to support their students' strengths and needs; engage real students in ambitious learning; analyze whether their students are learning, and adjust their instruction to become more effective.
For an 18-week student teaching placement, the optimum time to complete the edTPA appears to be around weeks 8-12; for a 9-week placement, it may be around weeks 6-8 (which could require remediation/resubmission during a subsequent placement).
Most respondents found the edTPA to be an unfair (76%) and excessively time consuming (96%) assessment of their teaching practices.
The Georgia edTPA Standard Setting Committee, consisting of EPP faculty and P-12 teachers and leaders, recommended a passing standard of 38, which is -1/2 Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) below the national edTPA recommendation of 42.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
